Welcome

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural season of the NoVa Youth Choir. I am delighted to begin this new ensemble with singers in grades 5–7, and I look forward to creating a musical environment where students can grow in confidence, skill, and artistry. Together, we will explore healthy vocal technique, musical expression, and the joy of singing as a choir.

The NoVa Youth Choir has been created to provide an inspiring and educational environment where each singer can develop healthy vocal technique, musical understanding, and artistic confidence. Through collaborative learning and thoughtful repertoire, we will celebrate the power of choral music to unite voices and foster community.

My teaching is guided by the belief that every student has something unique to contribute, and that music offers a lifelong path for growth, creativity, and connection. I look forward to a meaningful season of learning, friendship, and performance as we build this ensemble together. - Alleigh Cave

Mixed Choir Audition Requirements

There will be four sections to each audition:

  1. Performance: Prepare and sing an excerpt of your favorite song to sing, approx. a one-minute excerpt. (Musical Theatre and Classical styles are not required, but highly encouraged)

  2. Sight Reading: There will be a pdf on the website of sight reading examples for two sections: singing and rhythm. You will be asked to sing one excerpt from each section at random selection. The sight reading excerpt will be posted  one week before the audition to stay true to the sight reading and test the auditioner's preparatory skills

  3. Pitch Recall: Sing and match pitch in response to a note or series of notes played by the audition panel.

  4. Range Test:  Sing a brief warm-up with the audition panel to determine optimal singing range.
